About The Festival Of Chhat Puja || What is Chhat Puja


Chhath Pooja is an Indian and ancient Hindu Vedic festival, which is completely dedicated to the Sun God, Chhathi Maiya and Surya of the Hindus and The wife of Sun God (Ancient Vedic Goddess) called Usha).


The Sun, considered as the god of energy and of the life-force, is worshiped during the Chhath festival to promote well-being, prosperity and progress. In Hinduism, Sun worship is believed to help cure a variety of diseases, including leprosy, and helps ensure the longevity and prosperity of family members, friends, and elders.

The Chhath puja is celebrated all across the Indian and it is mainly performed to thank the Lord Surya for sustaining life on earth and to request the granting of certain wishes. There is a fact about this festival which you should know, This festival is First observed by the Nepalese people and Indian people along with their diaspora.

Chhath puja is performed on Kartika Shukla Shashthi, which is the 6th day of the month of Kartika in the Vikram Samvat. The exact date of the festival is decided by Central division of Janakpurdham in Mithila Region of Nepal which is applicable to worldwide adherents.

It is a famous festival in Indian which is celebrated by many Indian Hindus but it mainly celebrated in the State of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and many other parts of India. This festival is also celebrated in some parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa, Assam and also Mauritius and Nepal.

This festival generally comes in the month of October-November and runs for four days.

Environmentalists claim that Chhath is the most eco-friendly Indian's and Hindu's festival. The rituals of the festival are rigorous and are observed over a period of four days. 

They include fasting, holy bathing, and abstaining from drinking water (Barta), standing in water for long time, and offering prashad  (prayer offerings) and arghya to the setting and rising sun. Some of the devotees also perform a prostration march as they head for the river banks.
